In a touching display of bravery and compassion, Dubai Police officers rescued a cat that was clinging to a car door handle as floodwaters rose and inundated the highways. On Tuesday, heavy rains in Dubai triggered unprecedented floods in the region, leading to dangerous conditions on the roads. The Government of Dubai Media Office shared a video on April 17 depicting the black and white cat, completely drenched, holding on to a car door handle in an effort to keep its head above the rising water. The cat's plight was dire, but the Dubai Police officers were quick to step in and help.
Despite the perilous conditions, a police officer took a small inflatable boat through the flooded streets to reach the cat's location. When the officer arrived at the submerged car, the frightened cat resisted being rescued, meowing and holding tightly onto the door handle. Nevertheless, the officer remained patient and persistent, eventually managing to lift the cat to safety and onto the boat.
Once aboard the boat and away from the submerged car, the cat, though still visibly shaken, began to survey its surroundings cautiously. The rescue showcased the officers' dedication to protecting all lives, even in challenging circumstances.

The floods caused by the heavy rains had a significant impact on other aspects of daily life in Dubai. According to a spokesperson from Dubai Airports, a total of 1,244 flights were cancelled and 41 flights were diverted at Dubai International until Thursday morning due to the flooding at the runways. Operations partially resumed from Terminal 1 after the airport experienced disruptions caused by the rains and subsequent flooding.
